Abstract:
Microfinance institutions focus on the microcredit and forget about the other services such as
microsavings, deemed necessary to eradicate the poverty. It is worthwhile to look at the economic
problems of the people living in rural areas of Pakistan and to analyze if lack of funds is the only barrier
to their economic well-being. The objective of the paper is to establish a need of the poor and develop a
conceptual model of poverty alleviation where financial services including microsavings are linked to
other non-financial interventions for successful and sustainable rural economic development.
