Abstract:

This conceptual paper proposes a model examining the effect of environmental and organizational
structure characteristics as well as the effect of organizational strategic choice on pre-training
motivation. Positive relationships between the stable-dynamic dimension of the environment, the organic-mechanic dimension of the organizational structure are proposed. The moderating role of organizational
strategic choice in the proposed relationships is also discussed. Pre-training motivation is also predicted
to be higher in organizations following a differentiation strategy than that in organization following a
low-cost strategy.
