Abstract:

A growing number of large health care providers such as Aetna, Mayo Clinic, and Cleveland Clinic are
taking a preventative approach utilizing employee wellness programs. However, there is a lack of
supporting evidence online regarding established wellness programs for small businesses, especially
medical group practices. In this study, we used secondary data analysis, from online literature supported
by empirical data collected through Clayton State University’s 8 Client organizations, to analyze how
physicians can once again lead the way in fostering healthy behaviors among their employees and
patients, as well as their outside circles of influence. Our paper demonstrates the potential far reaching
effects on the total population’s health through a “ripple effect” (Socio-ecological Model).
