Abstract:

This paper explores the mechanisms embedded in the relationship between the network status and
innovations. Little prior research answered the relationship between M&A, strategic alliances and
innovations and how innovations are influenced by strategic alliances and M&A activities. In addition,
how network characteristics like networks status influence innovations was not systematically studied. I
offered a systematic framework to investigate these issues. I argue that firms use the resource access
mechanism and the market control mechanism to knit their social networks and influence the social
capital accumulation, which in turn affects the firms’ innovations ability.
